Economic Hardship Forcing Nigerians Into Crime, Says Adebayo

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) chieftain and former presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, has voiced deep concern over the deteriorating living conditions in Nigeria, asserting that the current economic crisis is literally pushing people toward criminal behavior.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’ on Tuesday, Adebayo highlighted how the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu’s administration has triggered a spike in the cost of goods and services across the board, leaving citizens struggling to make ends meet.

Adebayo remarked, ‘The harsh economic reality is grooming a generation of Nigerians into thieves. When I contested for the presidency in 2023, I did not anticipate becoming a prophet, but every warning I made has come to pass. The policies of President Tinubu have devastated the economy and eroded the purchasing power of the people, failing to deliver the accountability that citizens demanded.’

He further criticized the current leadership, stating, ‘What we have today in Nigeria are individuals occupying positions of power, not a government as defined by our constitution. The SDP is committed to revitalizing healthcare, education, and restoring the purchasing power of ordinary Nigerians. We are targeting those who did not vote in the last election to increase our support base.’
