Nigerian rapper Emeka Akumefule, better known as Blaqbonez, has voiced strong criticism of the music industry, describing it as deeply unfair. The artist behind the hit track ‘Chanel’ pointed out a troubling double standard among musicians, where support is often one-sided.
Blaqbonez expressed frustration that while he actively promotes releases from his peers on social media, they rarely return the favor when he drops new music. He took to his X handle to call out this imbalance, noting that since his song ‘Chanel’ dropped, none of his fellow artists have shared it publicly.
He specifically mentioned that he had posted music from Drake, Central Cee, Future, and Gunna, but when he releases what he considers the biggest song of the summer, he is met with silence. This lack of reciprocity, he argued, highlights a toxic culture within the industry.
This is not the first time Blaqbonez has spoken out against industry practices. In 2023, he accused some colleagues of using streaming farms to artificially boost their numbers and manipulate charts. Although figures like Don Jazzy and Odumodublvck disputed these claims, Blaqbonez stood by his allegations, insisting that stream farming has caused irreversible damage to Nigerian music.
