In a significant development ahead of the 2027 governorship elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has officially cleared three aspirants to contest its primary ticket. The contenders are former Deputy Governor Hazeem Gbolarumi, Mogaji Oluwakayode Ogunsola, and Amofin Beulah Adeoye. Party chairman Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso confirmed that all three have been screened by the party leadership.
The primary election has been scheduled for Sunday, May 24, 2026. Akinoso stated that the party will use a direct primary system, allowing registered members across all wards to vote directly for their preferred candidate. The results will be collated at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat in Iyaganku, Ibadan.
Akinoso urged party members to conduct themselves peaceably during the exercise. He emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation ahead of the general elections, calling on all stakeholders to work together for the party’s success. The PDP chairman reiterated that the primary process will adhere strictly to the amended electoral act.
