In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, Chima Matthew Amadi has been chosen as the senatorial candidate for the Action Peoples Party (APP) representing Imo East, also known as Owerri Zone. The announcement came after a primary election held at the party’s state secretariat in Owerri, where delegates, stakeholders, and party leaders unanimously endorsed Amadi as a consensus candidate, reflecting a strong show of unity and collective decision-making.
The event drew participants from all nine local government areas within Owerri Zone, showcasing widespread enthusiasm and a shared vision for effective, people-oriented leadership. The process was marked by transparency and adherence to internal democratic principles, with a motion moved by Hon. Ugochukwu Metford Nnah, the Mbaitoli LGA party chairman, and seconded by Engr. Henry Alaribe, the zonal chairman, receiving overwhelming approval from those present.
Overseeing the congress was Barrister Obed Agor, alongside officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including the Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner. Their presence underscored the party’s commitment to due process and electoral integrity. The gathering also included prominent figures such as the National Chairman, Barrister Uche Nnadi, members of the National Executive Committee, newly elected House of Representatives candidates, and other key stakeholders, all of whom highlighted the party’s growing strength and cohesion.
Amadi’s selection as the consensus candidate stems from widespread confidence in his leadership abilities, political maturity, grassroots appeal, and dedication to advancing the interests of Imo East and the broader Imo State.
