Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez, has openly criticized the Club World Cup, describing it as a major factor behind the team’s failure to secure any silverware this season. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Perez stressed that the tournament disrupted the squad’s preparation and led to a cascade of injuries.
According to Perez, the competition ‘killed’ Real Madrid’s campaign by eliminating the crucial preseason period. He noted that within three months, the team suffered 28 injuries, which he directly linked to the lack of proper training before the season started.
‘The Club World Cup destroyed our season,’ Perez declared. ‘We had no preseason, and the result was a staggering number of injuries. It’s a painful lesson. I still want to participate in the Club World Cup, but not at the cost of sacrificing an entire season.’
Real Madrid finished yet another year without a single trophy, marking two consecutive barren seasons. This drought has prompted the club to appoint Jose Mourinho as their new manager, a move expected to be officially announced this summer.
