Finidi George, the technical adviser of Rivers United, has voiced his delight following his team’s hard-fought 3-2 victory against Rangers in the President Federation Cup. The former Super Eagles winger commended his players for their resilience and attacking display.
Chijioke Mbaoma, Wisdom Samuel, and Handsome Surveyor found the back of the net for Rivers United, while Godwin Obaje and Precious Agu replied for Rangers. Despite a tense finish, Rivers United held on to secure the win.
Speaking to the club’s media team, George stated: “We kicked off the match strongly, and the victory brings us great joy. The lads put in a solid shift. Rangers managed to score twice, and things got a bit messy near the end, but we snatched the decisive goal.”
He added: “Overall, we are pleased with the team’s showing. Now we turn our attention to the Round of 16, where we will continue to fight and see how far we can go.”
Rivers United are set to battle Nasarawa United in the next stage of the tournament.
