Former England right-back Kyle Walker has voiced his displeasure over Thomas Tuchel’s decision to leave out three key players from the 2026 World Cup squad. Walker believes that Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, and Morgan Gibbs-White all deserved a place on the plane to the United States this summer.
Speaking to The Sun, Walker described Tuchel’s selections as confusing, noting that several in-form performers were overlooked. He singled out Maguire and Shaw, stating they have enjoyed their finest campaigns for Manchester United in years. “Luke Shaw absolutely should have been included, and I feel the same about Harry Maguire,” Walker said.
Walker’s primary worry for England lies with the defense. He questioned whether the chosen defenders can stay fit throughout the tournament. “Some of them haven’t been playing well or are carrying injuries. Can we really depend on them for the whole competition? That’s where I have doubts, but I’m not the manager,” he added.
The Burnley player also expressed surprise at Gibbs-White’s absence, calling him an outstanding performer for Nottingham Forest who merited a call-up. Additionally, notable names like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Phil Foden, and Cole Palmer were also omitted from England’s final World Cup roster.
