The Super Falcons of Nigeria delivered a commanding performance against Senegal, securing a 3-0 victory in their second friendly encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Monday. This win comes on the heels of a 2-1 triumph over the same opponents last Friday.
Coach Justine Madugu’s squad struggled to find the net in the first half, missing several opportunities despite controlling possession. Washington Spirit forward Monday Gift had an early chance but her weak shot was easily gathered by the Senegalese goalkeeper. Shortly after, Joy Omewa, set up by captain Rasheedat Ajibade, struck the post with a precise effort.
The Falcons continued to press, but a miscommunication between Toni Payne and Ajibade in the 32nd minute squandered another golden opportunity. However, the breakthrough arrived just after halftime. In the 49th minute, Omewa rose highest to head home the opening goal, breaking the deadlock.
Just six minutes later, Omewa doubled her tally with a composed finish, giving Nigeria a comfortable 2-0 lead. In the 63rd minute, Madugu made a double substitution, bringing on Asisat Oshoala and Folashade Ijamilusi for Rinsola Babajide and the impressive Omewa. The changes paid off quickly when Oshoala, set up by Ajibade, slotted home the third goal in the 66th minute.
Despite creating additional chances, the Super Falcons were unable to extend their lead, but the 3-0 scoreline reflected their dominance throughout the match. The team’s cohesion and attacking flair were on full display, offering a promising sign ahead of future competitions.
