In a stunning turnaround, the reigning 2024 champions of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), Edo Queens, bounced back emphatically in their Super Six playoff campaign. After falling to Nasarawa Amazons in their opening match, the Benin City side delivered a resounding 4-1 victory over FC Robo Queens in Port Harcourt on Monday.
Robo Queens, who had previously suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat to Rivers Angels last Saturday, were unable to withstand the relentless pressure from their opponents. The match saw Chioma Moses emerge as the star for Edo Queens, netting two goals in the first half to give her team a comfortable lead at the break.
The second half continued in similar fashion, with coach Moses Aduku’s squad maintaining complete control. Precious Oscar extended the lead just before the hour mark, scoring in the 59th minute to make it 3-0. Mary Mamudu added a fourth goal in the 63rd minute, effectively sealing the win for her side.
FC Robo Queens managed to find a consolation goal late in the game, with Florence Godwin Freda pulling one back in the 86th minute. However, it was too little, too late for the Lagos-based club, who now face an uphill battle in the tournament.
The NWFL Super Six playoff action continues on Wednesday, with teams vying for top honors in the women’s football league.
