The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, has assured the grieving family of late nursing student Wendy Achumba that those responsible for her death will face the full force of the law. The pledge came during his visit to the family home in Aba on Monday.
Wendy, a 21-year-old student at Our Lady of Mercy Nursing School in Unuologho Obowo, Imo State, was tragically raped and killed at her off-campus residence. The brutal incident has sparked outrage and demands for swift justice.
According to Emeruwa, the House of Assembly had already taken up the matter during a recent plenary session, where a motion was moved to accelerate the state government’s response to the murder case. He emphasized that both the legislature and the executive are united in their resolve to bring the perpetrators to trial.
Speaking on behalf of the Achumba family, Rev. T. O. Ikpemmadu of the United Evangelical Church expressed deep sorrow over the loss but thanked the Speaker and the government for their efforts to secure justice. He described the murder as a heavy burden but acknowledged the commitment shown by the authorities.
