South Africa’s World Cup Spot Well-Deserved, Says Troost-Ekong

South Africa's World Cup Spot Well-Deserved, Says Troost-Ekong

Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has expressed his belief that South Africa’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is thoroughly deserved. According to him, Bafana Bafana’s consistency throughout the qualifiers set them apart.

South Africa topped their group, which included Nigeria’s Super Eagles, securing a spot in the tournament for the first time since 2010. Nigeria, on the other hand, missed out on qualification for a second consecutive World Cup after falling to the Democratic Republic of Congo in a penalty shootout during the African playoffs final.

Troost-Ekong noted that Bafana Bafana were far more consistent in the qualifying campaign. “They were steady from the start, and we were always trying to catch up. We lost many points early on, so they earned their place at the World Cup,” the centre-back told Supersport.

South Africa are set to face South Korea in their final group stage match on Thursday, aiming to advance further in the tournament.
