Chelsea Rule Out Moves for Nwaneri and Bergvall

Chelsea have decided against pursuing Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri and Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall during the current transfer window. The Blues, who are preparing for Xabi Alonso’s first season as head coach, have been linked with both players in recent weeks, but reports now indicate that neither will be joining the club this summer.

Xabi Alonso is set to officially take charge at Stamford Bridge on July 1, following his appointment last month after Liam Rosenior’s departure. The new manager is expected to oversee a squad overhaul, but Chelsea have yet to complete any deals in the summer market. Speculation about Nwaneri and Bergvall has been rife, but according to the Daily Mail, the club has no immediate plans to sign either player.

Nwaneri spent the second half of last season on loan at Marseille and recently featured for England in a pre-World Cup training camp in the United States. Bergvall, meanwhile, made 33 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions last season, including 23 in the Premier League. Despite reports that the Swedish midfielder wants to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Chelsea are not currently considering a move.

Both players are expected to have busy summers, but it appears that neither will be swapping clubs to join Chelsea. The Blues are likely to focus on other targets as Alonso builds his squad for the upcoming campaign.
