Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney has declared that this season belongs to Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League. The former England captain shared his thoughts on Amazon Prime following the Gunners’ narrow victory over Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their semi-final showdown.
Mikel Arteta’s squad advanced to the final after a tense match at the Emirates Stadium, where a first-half goal from Bukayo Saka proved decisive. The tie was finely poised after a 1-1 draw in Madrid last week, but Arsenal found the breakthrough just before the interval.
Rooney, who previously played a Champions League semi-final at the Emirates, was particularly struck by the electric atmosphere generated by the home supporters. He noted that the energy from the crowd was far superior to what he experienced during his own playing days at the venue. “I’ve played a Champions League semi-final here before, and the atmosphere that evening was nowhere near what it was like today. This is Arsenal’s year,” he remarked.
