The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a stern reminder to all tertiary institutions that processing admissions outside the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) is a violation of established regulations. This announcement was made by the board’s Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, during the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions convened in Abuja.
Oloyede highlighted that several institutions continue to extend admission letters to candidates who have not been vetted through CAPS, disregarding Federal Government directives. He stressed that such actions compromise the transparency and fairness of the admissions process. Instances have been reported where applicants with superior scores were overlooked in favor of those with lower marks, raising concerns about integrity.
The Registrar confirmed that disciplinary measures have been initiated against the offending institutions, and appropriate sanctions will be enforced. Furthermore, a case involving eleven universities accused of conducting illegal admissions is currently under judicial review.
Addressing other issues, Oloyede dismissed allegations that candidates were assigned to examination centers outside their chosen towns. He explained that during registration, students select their preferred locations, and JAMB ensures they are placed within those areas. Investigations into the complaints have verified that no candidate was deployed to a center beyond their selected town, a matter also examined by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
In conclusion, Oloyede reaffirmed that all admissions to tertiary institutions must go through CAPS, urging strict adherence to approved procedures to maintain fairness and legality.
