Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, the National Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has announced that the party is free from litigation and internal conflicts. He made this statement while welcoming Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, who recently defected to the APM.
Dantalle praised the governor for choosing to join the APM and assured him and his followers that the party is prepared to collaborate with them. He emphasized that integrity, sacrifice, and service are the core principles that define political parties.
He noted that the APM’s slogan, “Nigeria First,” can be adapted to local contexts. The chairman described Bauchi as a politically distinctive state where all parties compete on a level playing field, reflecting its democratic values and inclusiveness.
“Bauchi State stands out in the North and across Nigeria for its decision-making approach. It is a place where political parties have fair contests, which speaks to your democratic nature and inclusivity,” Dantalle stated.
He reaffirmed the party’s dedication to working with the governor, expressing optimism that this move would strengthen the APM for upcoming elections.
Governor Mohammed, earlier, announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APM, revealing that he brought his entire political structure, from ward to state level, with him. He made the announcement on Saturday after consultations with PDP stakeholders in Bauchi, describing the current political climate as “extraordinary” and “complex.”
He explained that efforts to resolve the PDP’s internal crisis, including talks in Abuja, failed to produce the desired outcomes, especially after the Supreme Court’s ruling invalidated the parallel conventions held by party factions. This left both sides without legal standing, leading to the Board of Trustees temporarily managing party affairs.
“After careful thought and broad consultations, it is evident that our attempts to restore stability have not achieved the expected results,” Mohammed said. He expressed gratitude to the PDP for its role in his political career but noted that the APM provides a credible and stable platform for his supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The APM gives us a viable platform to organize effectively, rally our supporters, and offer a credible alternative,” he added. He highlighted that the party is free from legal disputes that could hamper its operations.
The governor also outlined steps for a smooth transition, including forming a compliance committee, starting online membership registration, engaging with the Independent National Electoral Commission, and mobilizing grassroots support. He disclosed that members of the State Executive Council planning to run for elective offices have resigned their appointments.
Reaffirming his commitment to democratic principles, the governor stated, “We cherish the PDP because we are PDP at heart, but we had to move to continue the struggle and provide good governance.”
