The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially chosen Engineer Kale Kawu as its candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election.

According to reports from DAILY POST, this decision precedes the party’s scheduled primary election on Sunday, which is expected to formalize the consensus reached among stakeholders.

The announcement, made on Saturday by former Governor Bukola Saraki, comes shortly after the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Engineer Yakubu Danladi Salihu, secured the APC ticket for the same race.

Dr. Saraki stated, “Following extensive consultations with Kwara PDP stakeholders and our leading gubernatorial aspirants, we have unanimously agreed on a consensus candidate to represent our party in the upcoming gubernatorial election.”

The former Senate President also expressed gratitude to other aspirants who selflessly stepped down for the unity and progress of the party. “This spirit of unity and sacrifice will lead us to victory,” he added.

Dr. Saraki further wished all party members, delegates, and supporters a successful, peaceful, and orderly conduct during the governorship primaries.

Presidential hopeful Peter Obi has firmly denied allegations that he is trying to avoid former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) aspirant spoke about his deep admiration for Atiku, describing him as a respected leader and an elder brother.

Speaking at the Spier Dialogue 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa, on Friday, Obi clarified his stance. ‘Few people share as close a bond with Atiku as I do. The idea that I am fleeing from him is absurd. He is my highly regarded leader and older brother,’ Obi stated.

He added, ‘I have never run from anyone, and I am not about to start now. I simply prefer to approach matters differently.’ These remarks come amidst a period of strain in their political relationship.

Both Obi and Atiku had joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 election. However, Obi left the ADC for the NDC on January 1, 2026. His recent comments aim to dispel any notion of discord between him and Atiku.

The Katsina State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially thrown its weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s campaign for the 2027 presidential election. Governor Dikko Radda made this known while addressing reporters during a party event in his hometown on Saturday.

According to Radda, party members across all wards and local government areas participated in an exercise that demonstrated their unwavering support for the President. He described the activity as a reflection of democratic engagement and internal cohesion within the APC.

The governor highlighted the massive turnout of supporters, interpreting it as a strong indicator of confidence in both the party’s leadership and the nation’s democratic processes. Radda also dismissed criticisms leveled against President Tinubu, asserting that the President continues to enjoy robust backing from party faithful and the general populace in Katsina State.

Expressing optimism for the 2027 elections, Radda predicted a strong performance by the APC at all levels of government. He emphasized that the exercise served to reaffirm the party’s unity and commitment to Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The Enugu State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially disclosed the timetable for the screening of aspirants vying for various elective positions within the state. This announcement was made in a statement released on Friday, signed by the party’s State Chairman, Dr. Johnpaul Anih, Secretary Dr. Sebastine Okafor, and Publicity Secretary Emmanuel Ugwueze.

According to the details, the screening exercise is scheduled to hold on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at the Dragon Recreation Centre in Enugu. The committee tasked with conducting the screening will be chaired by Professor I.G. Nwangwu, with Barrister Peace Chidi Ugwu serving as secretary. Other members of the committee include Chinachi Nnabuko and Emma Onovo.

In addition, the party has constituted an Appeal Committee to handle any grievances arising from the screening process. This committee is chaired by Professor Chinedu Aguba, with Mrs. Chioma Agbo as secretary. Other members are Clinton Ogbonna and Reverend Austin Nnaji. Appeals are to be submitted on Monday, May 25, 2026.

Aspirants have been advised to come prepared with photocopies and original copies of their birth certificates, four recent passport photographs, their voter cards, curriculum vitae, and NDC membership cards. The party urged all participants to adhere strictly to these requirements to ensure a smooth screening process.

On Saturday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) held its presidential primary election in the Agege Local Government Area, and President Bola Tinubu emerged victorious. According to reports, Tinubu secured wins across all 11 wards within the LGA.

Returning Officer Mr. Abiodun Mafe announced that the president garnered 226,280 votes. Mafe praised the high voter turnout among party members, interpreting it as a strong show of confidence in Tinubu’s leadership.

He noted, “The impressive turnout reflects widespread acceptance of President Tinubu within the party and beyond.” Mafe encouraged party members to continue rallying support for Tinubu in their respective communities, emphasizing the need to highlight the president’s accomplishments to ensure his re-election.

He added, “We are delighted that our council chairmen, particularly in Lagos State, are complementing the Tinubu administration’s efforts in delivering democratic dividends.”

Former Minister of Transport, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to step into what he terms a breakdown of internal democracy within the party’s Taraba State chapter.

Speaking through his senior media aide, Dr. Sam Idiagbonya, on Saturday, Sambo demanded a thorough review of the APC governorship primary in the state. He argued that the exercise, which declared incumbent Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas the winner with 166,357 votes, while Sambo trailed far behind with 4,110 votes, was marred by irregularities and lacked transparency.

“Politics is about power, but power must always respect due process,” Idiagbonya stated, rejecting the outcome as a betrayal of democratic principles. He claimed that many loyal APC members felt “betrayed, humiliated, and politically orphaned” by how the primary was conducted.

Sambo’s camp alleged that the election was characterized by the exclusion of key stakeholders and a lack of openness. They warned that if these concerns are not addressed, it could tarnish the party’s image and the integrity of the entire process.

“We are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national leadership of the APC, and the party chairman to urgently review the conduct of the Taraba State gubernatorial primaries,” the statement added. Sambo stressed that the APC must “rise to its purpose, defend its honour, and remain a model of democratic process.”

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has lauded the remarkable participation of All Progressives Congress (APC) members across 177 wards in the state during the party’s presidential primaries. He described the exercise as a clear endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership and a testament to the party’s unity and democratic processes.

Governor Oyebanji took part in the affirmation process at his polling unit in Ward 6, Ikogosi-Ekiti, arriving around 10:35 a.m. After casting his vote, he spoke with reporters, emphasizing that the exercise was peaceful and orderly. He noted that it reflected the APC’s dedication to strengthening internal democracy at all levels.

The governor pointed out that the high enthusiasm among party members demonstrated their united support for Tinubu’s leadership. He stressed that the process was smooth and free of conflict.

I commend the APC for deepening democracy and giving every member a platform to decide,” Oyebanji said.

He expressed confidence that President Tinubu would secure a sweeping victory in the general elections, citing the overwhelming support during the primaries as proof of broad acceptance among party members and the electorate. “If performance determines electoral success, then there is no doubt about APC and President Tinubu’s victory in the January 2027 election,” he added.

The gruesome beheading of a schoolteacher in Oyo State is more than a murder—it is a public execution of the nation’s conscience, according to human rights lawyer and IPOB lead counsel, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor.

Ejiofor asserts that the killing of Mr. Michael Oyedokun, a math teacher at Community High School in Esiele, Oriire LGA, is not an isolated tragedy but a profound indictment of Nigeria’s failing security, eroded humanity, and dysfunctional governance.

He argues that Nigeria failed Mr. Oyedokun, warning that a country that neglects its teachers is digging its own grave. The incident, he says, symbolizes how insecurity, government inaction, and institutional decay have shattered the nation’s moral foundation.

“What is even more disturbing is the chilling prospect that, in the future, some of these terrorists may be rehabilitated and reintegrated into society, while the memory of the innocent teacher they slaughtered fades into forgotten news archives,” Ejiofor stated.

He highlighted that Oyedokun’s only crime was being present at school, at the right time, fulfilling his duty to teach and mentor children. This act of service cost him his life.

“Can there be a greater tragedy than schools becoming slaughterhouses, classrooms turning into terror theaters, and educators being treated as bargaining chips by murderous extremists?” Ejiofor asked.

He reminded that every judge, lawyer, doctor, professor, engineer, governor, and president once sat before a teacher. Yet, paradoxically, those who build society are met with contempt, poor pay, and institutional abandonment.

Ejiofor extended deep sympathy to teachers nationwide, Oyedokun’s family, traumatized students, and all affected by this barbaric act. He called on the federal and Oyo state governments, security agencies, and law enforcement to act swiftly and decisively to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators without delay.

He insisted that everyone involved in the conspiracy, regardless of status or political protection, must be identified and brought to justice.

The Ariko community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State is appealing to both the federal and state authorities for urgent action to free 37 worshipers who were kidnapped during Easter Sunday church attacks. The abductors have set a ransom of one billion naira and 35 motorcycles for the release of the captives.

Dr. Joseph David Ariko, President of the Kuturmi Development Association (KUDA), disclosed to DAILY POST that the community cannot raise such a huge sum. The kidnappers, he said, call almost every two days insisting on the full payment without negotiation. The victims were taken from St. Augustine Catholic Church, ECWA, and Baptist churches, and have now been held for about 45 days, causing immense fear and uncertainty among families and residents.

During the Easter Sunday attacks, armed bandits stormed three churches, killing five worshipers before abducting 37 others. The prolonged captivity has disrupted social and economic life in Ariko, with many residents living in constant dread. Affected families are struggling emotionally and financially.

Dr. Ariko stressed that the community looks solely to the government for rescue, as they lack the means to meet the ransom demand. He urged security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the victims’ release and restore confidence among residents. Community leaders also called on well-meaning Nigerians, humanitarian organizations, and other stakeholders to support the community in this trying time.
