The Nationwide League One (NLO) has taken disciplinary action against Ibadan United following a chaotic incident during their fixture with Ilaji FC. According to an official statement released on Monday, the club has been ordered to forfeit the match and pay a fine of ₦500,000.
The trouble erupted when players stormed the field and physically confronted match officials. The game, which was being broadcast live from Durbar Stadium in Oyo, was watched by league representatives who later condemned the actions as a blatant disregard for sportsmanship. The NLO labeled the behavior a major breach of conduct that brought the game into disrepute.
In addition to the club sanctions, three players have been handed indefinite suspensions from all football-related activities. The suspended individuals are Ojedokun Basit, Lawal Hassan, and Aderibigbe Hammed. The league emphasized that the penalties are intended to serve as a deterrent against future misconduct.
Ibadan United must settle the fine before their next league match. As of now, the club has not indicated whether they will accept or challenge the sanctions. This incident adds to a growing list of disciplinary cases in the NLO this season, highlighting ongoing concerns about player and fan behavior in Nigerian lower-league football.
