The Accord Party has firmly rejected a Federal High Court order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister it. In a statement, the party insisted on its readiness to participate in upcoming elections, including the Osun governorship race, and assured candidates and supporters of its presence on the ballot.
According to Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem, the party’s National Chairman, the court’s ruling was delivered in disregard of a subsisting stay of proceedings by the Court of Appeal. He described the action as a violation of the rule of law, emphasizing that the judiciary must operate with due process, not arbitrary orders. The party considers the judgment an attack on democracy and has directed its legal team to challenge it immediately.
The Accord Party argued that it was not a party to the suit filed by the so-called National Forum of Former Legislators, which sought the deregistration. It pointed out that it won two councilorship elections in Jigawa State, thereby meeting constitutional and electoral requirements. The party stressed that the attempt to derail its progress by antidemocratic forces has failed once again.
Looking ahead, the Accord Party announced plans to proceed with its Imole campaign flag-off scheduled for Tuesday, June 16, 2026, in Osun State. It also vowed to contest the Ekiti governorship election and the 2027 general elections. The party urged its members to remain steadfast, assuring them that it will overcome this legal hurdle.
