John Obi Mikel, the former captain of the Super Eagles, recently shared that his phone was inundated with messages from Arsenal supporters following their Premier League triumph on Tuesday night.
Despite his allegiance to Chelsea, Mikel Obi admitted he initially felt reluctant to offer congratulations. He recounted, “I woke up to my phone blowing up—the messages were unbelievable, all from Arsenal fans. Why would I, as a Chelsea fan, congratulate Arsenal for winning the Premier League? No way.”
However, the ex-Chelsea star acknowledged Arsenal’s achievement, praising Mikel Arteta’s squad for ending a 22-year wait for the title. He added, “But I have to give credit where it’s due: they won the league, they deserve it, fair play. In sports, we shouldn’t be sore losers. If someone beats you, you shake hands and move on.”
