The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State conducted its primary elections across all 25 local government areas on Saturday, ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, the process was overshadowed by widespread allegations of candidate imposition, irregularities, and protests from disgruntled members.

In Chanchaga Local Government Area, three aspirants initially vied for the party’s House of Representatives ticket before the incumbent, Abubakar Audu Buba, withdrew from the race, a move supporters said was aimed at fostering party unity.

Meanwhile, in Bosso Local Government Area, six aspirants competed for the APC ticket to represent the Bosso/Paikoro Federal Constituency. Voting in several wards across the state reportedly began late due to high voter turnout and logistical issues.

Despite these delays, security personnel ensured order, and no significant violence was reported in Chanchaga and Bosso/Paikoro constituencies.

However, the primaries in Gurara/Tafa/Suleja and Shiroro federal constituencies were marred by accusations of candidate imposition, sparking protests and disagreements among party members.

In the Mokwa/Lavun/Edati Federal Constituency, former State House of Assembly Speaker Adamu Usman emerged as the consensus candidate.

Public dissatisfaction was evident in several local government areas, with aggrieved members accusing party officials of manipulating the process and forcing aspirants on them.

Adamu Makun Sheikh, an aspirant in Paikoro Local Government Area, claimed that elections were conducted in only a few of the 11 wards, leaving the process inconclusive. He stated that the exercise was rescheduled for Sunday morning, but party officials failed to appear at the designated venue. “We were all at the venue, but none of the officials showed up,” he said, threatening legal action if the reported irregularities were not addressed.

Similarly, Shehu Samaila Auna, an APC aspirant for the Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency, rejected the emergence of Professor Yakubu Auna as the consensus candidate. In a statement to journalists in Minna, he described the decision as unilateral and not reflective of the collective will of party members. He called on the APC National Working Committee and State Executive Committee to cancel the consensus arrangement and conduct a direct primary, citing Article 20 of the APC Constitution and Section 84(9) of the Electoral Act. He argued that no written agreement existed among aspirants to support a consensus candidate, insisting that the adoption of Professor Yakubu Auna amounted to imposition under the guise of consensus.

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 Lagos State election, Laja Adeoye, has clarified his reasons for departing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He pointed to persistent internal conflicts and a shift toward governance-focused objectives as the catalysts for his move.

Speaking on Sunday at the unveiling of the Lagos Agenda 2027, dubbed Atunto Eko 1.0, Adeoye unveiled core components of his campaign platform while explaining his decision. He noted that APM provides a more stable and purpose-oriented environment, one that can effectively deliver tangible governance results.

“My choice was fueled by ongoing crises inside the PDP and a desire to address real governance challenges,” Adeoye stated. He argued that prolonged legal battles and leadership disputes within the PDP hindered his ability to concentrate on the pressing needs of Lagos residents.

“The endless legal and leadership wrangling in the PDP made it impossible to focus on what truly matters to Lagosians. My commitment to this state and my determination to bring about meaningful change prompted this principled transition. APM is not just another political party; it’s a government-in-waiting, a movement grounded in integrity, competence, and people-first leadership,” he declared.

Adeoye contended that such internal discord could generate uncertainty regarding candidate legitimacy and party stability, potentially affecting preparations for future elections overseen by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He used the opportunity to position APM as a more stable alternative, emphasizing priorities like youth empowerment, job creation, and economic inclusion.

He stressed that his move to APM was not solely about political ambition but reflected a commitment to practical solutions for the state’s development challenges. Adeoye highlighted critical sectors needing urgent attention: power supply, transportation, healthcare, and urban development. He pledged that his campaign would prioritize measurable outcomes over political rhetoric.

Elaborating on his infrastructure agenda, Adeoye outlined plans for independent power projects, expansion of renewable energy, affordable housing schemes, and flood control systems to strengthen urban resilience. He also promised a focus on social welfare and inclusive governance, ensuring balanced development across all communities.

Noting that Lagos has maintained a distinct democratic path since 1999, Adeoye observed that the state, rooted in the five historic IBILE divisions of Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos (Eko), and Epe, has largely been dominated by a single political party. He expressed confidence that APM offers the fresh perspective needed to break that pattern.

A wave of discontent has swept through the ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State as party aspirants from the southern zone took to the streets to voice their opposition to what they call the imposition of a House of Representatives candidate. The protest unfolded in Numan, where dozens of aspirants, party faithful, and backers assembled at the APC Zonal Secretariat, brandishing placards that read “No to Imposition,” “Allow Free Primaries,” and “Let the People Decide.”

Among those who had set their sights on the APC ticket for this federal constituency is Vrati Nzonzo, a former council chairman. Just a day before the controversial primary, Nzonzo had spearheaded a forum of aspirants to caution the party against imposing anyone under the guise of consensus. He has been vocally critical of Saturday’s primary, labeling it a predetermined affair that undermines democratic principles.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State finds itself enveloped in a climate of heightened political anxiety as the party gears up to select its senatorial candidates. The impending Monday primaries, whether conducted through consensus or direct voting, carry significant implications that could reshape the state’s political landscape.

In Delta North, the contest pits Senator Ned Nwoko against Senator Ifeanyi Okowa. Many residents question the rationale behind Okowa’s bid to return to the Senate after serving two terms as governor, especially with his daughter already in the House of Assembly. While observers note that Nwoko has delivered tangible results during his tenure, indications from party leadership suggest a leaning toward Okowa.

A local voice expressed concern: “Nwoko’s main issue is the Okpai IPP Stepdown. He candidly explained to the governor why it was necessary, but Okowa and Governor Oborevwori disagreed. If defection remains an option, Nwoko could switch parties and still win a general election.”

Delta Central witnesses a fierce rivalry between Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Senator Ede Dafinone. Omo-Agege, who stood by the APC during its lean years, is credited with helping Dafinone secure his current Senate seat. Now, Dafinone is perceived as ungrateful. Although direct primaries would likely favor Omo-Agege, the consensus arrangement might hand the ticket to Dafinone, who shares ethnic ties with Governor Oborevwori. Sources indicate that if Omo-Agege defects, Dafinone would struggle to counter his influence.

Delta South appears relatively calm, with Senator Joel Onowakpo Thomas poised for victory. His performance has garnered approval, and the Ijaw community supports the Isokos in anticipation of an Ijaw governorship after Oborevwori’s second term.

The national leader of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has declared his intention to actively campaign against President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s ‘Sunday Politics’ program, Baba-Ahmed expressed strong criticism of the current administration, labeling Tinubu as detrimental to Nigeria’s progress.

He emphasized that ousting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is achievable, pointing to widespread public dissatisfaction as a foundation for change.

“My mission is to remove Tinubu from office because I believe he poses a serious threat to our nation’s future,” Baba-Ahmed stated. “Our primary goal within the PRP is to unseat him. While we don’t claim to be the sole force capable of this, we are committed to playing a significant role through all lawful means.”

He accused the president of worsening the country’s conditions, citing increased hardship, insecurity, and widespread despair. “Nigerians are deeply unhappy, and the administration knows this unless they are shielded from the truth,” he added.

Baba-Ahmed called on opposition leaders to unite, set aside personal ambitions, and collaborate to achieve a government change in 2027. “Half the battle is already won due to public discontent. The remaining challenge is for us — the political heavyweights — to pool our resources and energies, overcome selfishness, and focus on the collective goal of a new government,” he concluded.

In a significant development, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has conducted its House of Representatives primaries across Kano State, with a majority of candidates securing their tickets through consensus agreements. According to the party’s state public relations officer, Auwalu Soja, a total of 20 incumbent legislators were returned unopposed after stakeholders reached a peaceful understanding.

However, four constituencies witnessed competitive primaries. In Bagwai/Shanono, incumbent Yusuf Ahmad Badau emerged victorious over former lawmaker Faruk Lawan. Similarly, in Madobi/Garun Mallam, Sulaiman Mukthar Ishaq was declared the winner. The Dambatta Federal Constituency saw Hamisu Chidari clinch the ticket for a third term, while Mustapha Bala Maigidan Ruwa triumphed in Dawakin Kudu/Warawa. Soja emphasized that all primaries were conducted maturely without any security breaches.

Notable consensus candidates include Alhassan Ado Doguwa, Abubakar Kabir Bichi, and Abdulmumini Jibrin Kofa, who were among the 20 individuals who avoided primary elections. The smooth process underscores the party’s efforts to maintain unity ahead of the general elections.

The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the results of its House of Representatives primary elections held on Sunday, May 17, 2026. The state chairman, Amah Abraham Nnanna, secured the party’s ticket for the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.

Ikenna Onuoha, who headed the electoral committee, disclosed the outcomes in Umuahia. He emphasized that the process strictly adhered to the Electoral Act and aligned with the PDP Constitution of 2017, as amended. Onuoha noted that the primaries covered four federal constituencies and were conducted via consensus and affirmation methods.

According to Onuoha, the party outlined two electoral approaches: consensus first, and if that failed, a direct primary election would be employed. The following candidates also emerged: Akpulonu Solomon for Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency, Humphrey Chukwudi Benson for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, and Ajuziogu Roland for Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency.

As of the time of this report, results for the remaining four federal constituencies in Abia State had not yet been released.

Lagos, Nigeria – In a decisive victory during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election held on Saturday, Moses Olarewaju has clinched the party’s ticket for the House of Representatives seat in the Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency.

The election, which took place in Lagos State, saw Olarewaju amass a commanding 13,130 votes, far surpassing his closest rival, Hon. Ramota Akinlola-Hassan, who garnered 3,184 votes. Hon. Ayodele Adewale trailed with 79 votes, while Hon. Ade Adegboyega secured only 6 votes.

Supporters and party faithful across the constituency erupted in celebration following the announcement, viewing the outcome as a strong endorsement of Olarewaju’s deep grassroots appeal and widespread popularity.

In his acceptance speech, Olarewaju thanked party leaders, stakeholders, delegates, women and youth groups, ward executives, and all supporters for their unwavering backing throughout the primary process. He emphasized that the victory was not a personal triumph but a reflection of the collective will of the people of Amuwo Odofin.

“Today, the voices of our people were heard loud and clear. This victory is for the people, for grassroots politics, and for the future of Amuwo Odofin,” he declared.

The newly minted APC flagbearer noted that the result underscores the constituency’s craving for quality representation, unity, and sustained progress. He pledged to honor the trust placed in him by party members and supporters.

“This is more than a victory; it is a movement powered by the people, sustained by unity, and driven by the desire for purposeful leadership,” he added.

The primary election attracted a large turnout of delegates and party loyalists from various wards across the constituency, reflecting the high stakes and intense interest in the race.

The Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency (KSPWA) has announced the successful transportation of 1,158 pilgrims from the state to Medina, Saudi Arabia, in preparation for the 2026 Hajj. This was disclosed in a statement by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Mallam Ibrahim Makarfi, on Sunday in Kaduna.

According to Makarfi, the first flight took off on May 14 with 426 pilgrims, followed by a second flight on May 15 carrying 389 pilgrims, and a third on May 16 with 343 pilgrims. All flights landed safely in Medina. Pilgrims for the fourth flight were already at Hassan Usman Katsina International Airport awaiting departure on Sunday, while those for the fifth flight began reporting at the Transit Camp in Mando, Kaduna, from 10:00 a.m. on the same day.

The official carrier for this year’s Hajj operations is Flynas Airline. Makarfi expressed gratitude to the pilgrims and stakeholders for their cooperation and patience, reaffirming the agency’s dedication to ensuring a seamless and successful airlift for all pilgrims from the state.

The Federal Government, acting through the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), has ramped up surveillance and emergency response mechanisms in light of an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and a confirmed imported case in Uganda.

In a public health advisory signed by NCDC Director-General Dr. Jide Idris, the agency stated that it is vigilantly tracking developments in the affected nations and coordinating preparedness efforts with the Port Health Services and other partners.

“Response activities are ongoing in the affected areas, and we are ensuring continued vigilance within Nigeria’s public health system,” Dr. Idris noted.

Outlining the activated preparedness measures, Idris highlighted that the NCDC has bolstered nationwide surveillance for Ebola and other epidemic-prone diseases, while enhancing event-based monitoring and collaboration with state health authorities.

Other steps include improving laboratory and diagnostic readiness, strengthening infection prevention and control practices in healthcare settings, and expanding community engagement and public risk communication.

The agency is closely monitoring global and regional developments to ensure a swift response if the situation escalates.
