Bayelsa Queens are reportedly on the verge of dismissing their head coach, Whyte Ogbonda, following a disappointing campaign in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL). The club, fondly called the Prosperity Girls, failed to retain their league crown after a goalless stalemate against Rivers Angels on the final day of the NWFL playoffs.
According to sources, the team’s management has concluded a thorough evaluation of the 2025/26 season and decided to part ways with the gaffer. An official announcement regarding Ogbonda’s exit is anticipated within the week.
Under Ogbonda’s guidance, Bayelsa Queens had clinched their eighth NWFL title two seasons ago. However, their performance this term saw them finish second in the playoff standings with eight points from five matches, ceding the championship to Edo Queens.
The decision to relieve Ogbonda of his duties underscores the club’s ambition to return to the summit of Nigerian women’s football. The search for a new tactician is expected to commence shortly.
