Beauty Over Talent? Shine Rosman Slams Nollywood's Casting Priorities

Actress Shine Rosman, known for her roles in Nollywood, has openly criticized the industry’s tendency to place physical appearance above acting ability. In a candid interview on the Baaj and Paul podcast, she argued that many filmmakers are more concerned with how actresses look rather than their craftsmanship.

According to Rosman, the obsession with beauty has driven some performers to undergo cosmetic procedures like Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBL) to secure roles. She noted that while there are directors who value talent, the majority prioritize looks, leading to a culture where unqualified individuals land parts due to their appearance.

Rosman emphasized that this trend is eroding the essence of Nollywood, as talented actors are often overlooked. She called on industry leaders to shift their focus back to skill and artistry, warning that the overemphasis on beauty could harm the future of Nigerian cinema. The actress urged a return to merit-based casting to preserve the integrity of the movie industry.
