Honorable Anthony Adepoju, who represents the Ibarapa North/Ibarapa Central federal constituency in the House of Representatives, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The lawmaker, currently serving his second term, made this announcement through a resignation letter sent to the PDP chairman at his ward level.

According to the letter, which was made available to our correspondent on Thursday, Adepoju attributed his departure to the persistent internal conflicts plaguing the party. He emphasized that these ongoing disputes have significantly hampered his ability to perform effectively as a representative.

Adepoju further noted that the internal strife has caused deep divisions within the party structure. In his statement, he expressed regret over how his resignation might be perceived by his numerous supporters both locally and abroad. He assured them that his future political plans would be disclosed at the appropriate time.

In a significant political development, the former Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Isah Idris, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC). Idris, who currently serves as a lawmaker representing the Gwaram constituency, made his decision known through a resignation letter addressed to the chairman of the Gwaram ward.

The letter, which Idris personally signed, reads: “I am writing to formally notify you of my decision to step down from the All Progressives Congress. As a founding member and former Speaker, I had hoped that the APC would remain true to the principles on which it was established. However, I now believe it is time for me to move on.”

This resignation appears to stem from the recent screening process for APC aspirants, where Idris was disqualified and replaced by Ado Yakubu Zandam. Although Idris has not yet announced his next political move, sources indicate that he is considering joining either the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Meanwhile, a statement from the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Umar Kyari Jitau, suggests that the party is welcoming Idris with open arms. The statement did not explicitly confirm his defection but hinted at a warm reception for the former Speaker.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has not yet designated a preferred aspirant for the 2027 governorship race, putting to rest circulating rumors. This clarification was provided by Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media, during an interaction with DAILY POST on Thursday morning.

Recent speculation, which gained traction on various online platforms, suggested that Makinde had chosen Bimbo Adekanmbi, a former Commissioner for Finance under the previous administration of Governor Abiola Ajimobi, as his favored candidate. However, Olanrewaju refuted these claims unequivocally.

In a telephone conversation with DAILY POST, Olanrewaju emphasized that the governor continues to engage in wide consultations. “No, they are still consulting. They are still consulting on who the candidate would be. They are yet to announce,” he stated. He further added that as of the time of the report on Thursday, no official announcement regarding a preferred candidate has been made.

The media aide reiterated that the selection process remains open and that no individual has been publicly endorsed. “I said that they are still making consultations. No announcement has been made. No candidate has been announced,” Olanrewaju affirmed.

Former Plateau State Governor and current Senator representing Plateau South, Simon Lalong, has opened up on his decision to step down as the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state in favour of Governor Caleb Mutfwang. Speaking with journalists in Jos on Wednesday, Lalong said the move was driven by his commitment to fostering peace, unity, and stability within the party.

Lalong, who previously served as the Director-General of the Tinubu Campaign Council during the 2023 general elections, was the undisputed APC leader in Plateau until Mutfwang defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in December 2025. With the governor’s arrival, Lalong felt it was necessary to adjust the party hierarchy, allowing Mutfwang to assume the leadership role.

“The governor indicated his intention to return to the APC, and we welcomed him without any resistance, unlike what has happened in many states,” Lalong said. “The PDP collapsed, and governance returned to my party because I was instrumental in bringing the APC to Plateau. I was the leader and sole commander of the party, alongside the late General Shagaya and others. The APC gave me a platform, and I became governor. So, with the party firmly established, I feel honoured to be regarded as its father in the state, and I am proud that people have left their parties to join me in my house.”

He added, “It is natural that when a guest, especially a governor, comes with good intentions, you welcome him. Today, we have a very cordial relationship with the state governor. I feel honoured and dignified that Plateau State is now APC. When Governor Mutfwang joined the APC, one of the first things I did to make him comfortable was to say, ‘I surrender the leadership to you,’ so he would know that the house he is entering has been fully handed over to him.”

Lalong recounted Mutfwang’s response: “The governor replied, ‘Your Excellency, I am surprised you have surrendered this leadership to me. Do not think you are running away from me. You cannot run away from me. Both of us will run this party together.’”

The Senator also used the occasion to announce his intention to seek re-election for a second term in the Senate after collecting his nomination form. He emphasized that in any state, the governor naturally assumes party leadership, and his acceptance of Mutfwang’s return without resistance was in the best interest of the party, the state, and the nation.

In a scathing response to Nyesom Wike’s recent media appearance, PDP chieftain Umar Sani dismissed the FCT Minister’s explanations as weak and unconvincing. Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Sani argued that Wike only decided to address the public after his loyalists failed to make a compelling case for his faction’s legitimacy.

Sani accused Wike of delivering a confusing narrative, jumping between rulings from the Ibadan Federal High Court, the Abuja Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court without offering a clear picture of the party’s internal strife. According to Sani, Wike’s outburst was a desperate move to salvage his group’s credibility amid the ongoing PDP leadership crisis.

“His lieutenants tried but couldn’t make sense to Nigerians, so the big masquerade came out himself,” Sani stated. He emphasized that Wike’s attempts to prove his faction’s authenticity were inadequate and failed to address key legal and political questions. The PDP stalwart noted that Wike oscillated between court judgments, leaving many confused about the actual state of affairs within the party.

The comments come after Wike’s fiery media chat in Abuja, where he launched attacks on prominent party figures including Seyi Makinde, Adolphus Wabara, Jerry Gana, and Aminu Turaki. Wike accused them of engaging in fraudulent activities and questioned their integrity in managing party affairs. He also expressed disappointment in Makinde, alleging the Oyo governor was involved in what he termed “419 activities.”

A prominent figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Sani, has asserted that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, does not hold any of the party’s official documents. Sani made this statement during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’ on Thursday.

His remarks were a direct response to Wike’s earlier comments during a media parley on Wednesday, where Wike challenged the faction led by Taminu Turaki to open a bank account or establish an office, threatening to seal such premises. Sani dismissed Wike’s claims, emphasizing that according to the PDP’s constitution, the responsibility of safeguarding party documents lies with the Board of Trustees (BoT).

“Wike cannot even claim to have the documents of the party, because by our party constitution, that responsibility is bestowed on the Board of Trustees,” Sani stated. He further explained that while some members have formed a separate BoT, the legitimate BoT, led by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, remains the custodian of the party’s assets.

Sani questioned where Wike could have obtained documents to justify his assertions. “So where does Wike have documents to say that he is holding the documents? He does not have any documents. He’s just on national television trying to impress Nigerians,” he added.

A prominent figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Sani, has publicly challenged the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, asserting that his attempts at intimidation are futile. Sani accused Wike of leveraging his ministerial role to target political adversaries within the party, labeling these moves as desperate actions before an inevitable downfall.

During his appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, Sani claimed that Wike has repeatedly misused government authority to block meetings organized by rival PDP factions. He emphasized that his group remains undeterred, positioning themselves as the party’s authentic leadership.

Sani revealed that they are awaiting the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the recent Supreme Court ruling, which he believes will solidify their standing and force the opposition to vacate the party’s headquarters. He noted that Wike is fully aware of the locations where their meetings are held yet has been unable to disrupt them.

Drawing comparisons to past actions, Sani alleged that similar tactics were employed when Umar Damagum served as acting National Chairman. He recalled that the party’s secretariat and annex office were often sealed under the pretext of unpaid ground rent or tenement rates whenever gatherings unfavorable to Wike’s camp were organized.

“He knows exactly where we gather, yet he hasn’t shut us down. His efforts are nothing but empty threats,” Sani stated. “This is like the final struggle of a sinking ship because he acknowledges our legitimacy. Once we receive the Supreme Court’s CTC, they must pack up and leave Wadata Plaza. That’s why he’s using his position as FCT minister to target us.”

A Taraba State High Court, located in Jalingo, has postponed proceedings in the legal battle between Arewa24 Network Limited and the Northern Broadcast Media Owners Association (NBMOA) until June 4, 2026. The decision was reached on Wednesday during a session presided over by Justice Nuhu Adi at Court Two of the Jalingo Judicial Division.

The lawsuit, initiated by Arewa24, targets the registered trustees of NBMOA along with other parties. During the hearing, the defendants raised a preliminary objection, arguing that the suit lacks legal merit. This objection was filed under Order 11 Rule 1 of the Taraba State High Court Civil Procedure Rules 2026, requesting the case to be dismissed or struck out.

Following the session, Ibrahim Effiong, counsel for the plaintiff, informed journalists that the case was originally set for arguments on various motions, including an injunction that could affect his client’s interests. He noted that the defense lawyers requested additional time to prepare their response, citing a lack of readiness, which the court allowed.

Bilyaminu Lukman Maihanci, representing the defendants, explained to the court that the matter was not yet ripe for hearing. He attributed the delay in part to challenges posed by the newly implemented electronic filing system, which slowed the receipt of relevant case documents.

After hearing both parties, Justice Adi adjourned the case to June 4, 2026, for a ruling on the preliminary objection.

The Kano State Government has strongly refuted claims made by Amnesty International that five individuals lost their lives during the swearing-in ceremony of Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo. In an official statement issued on Wednesday, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, labeled the allegations as misleading, baseless, and malicious.

According to the government, no such incident involving the reported fatalities was documented by any security agency or state official. The statement emphasized that the purported event did not take place within the premises of the Kano Government House, and therefore should not be linked to the official ceremony.

The administration accused certain elements of fabricating the story to damage its reputation. It further criticized Amnesty International for failing to verify the information before publication, noting that the organization relied solely on social media clips without contacting Kano authorities.

Waiya called on the global leadership of Amnesty International to monitor the activities of its Nigerian branch to prevent the spread of disinformation. He reiterated the state’s commitment to transparency and urged the public to disregard the report.

The government also highlighted ongoing efforts to combat youth violence, including the Safe Corridor Kano Model program, which has profiled over 2,030 repentant youths for rehabilitation. The state has approved more than ₦600 million for the first phase of the initiative, targeting 1,000 beneficiaries.

In a troubling development, armed groups loyal to the infamous bandit leader Isiya Kwashen Garwa have placed new financial demands on the Garin Lamido and Yan Shuni communities in Katsina State’s Bakori Local Government Area. Each community is being required to pay N10 million.

This renewed levy comes after several so-called peace agreements were reached between local authorities, community leaders, and representatives of the armed groups. The agreements, which were intended to bring stability, have not prevented further extortion.

He expressed deep concern about the ongoing vulnerability of rural inhabitants in the state, noting that the latest demand has sparked panic. Many families have already fled their homes to avoid potential violent reprisals.

Sources within the affected communities report that the demand has escalated tensions in an area already plagued by persistent insecurity and a scarce security presence. Residents have voiced frustration over what they view as a repetitive cycle of broken agreements and fresh violations, casting doubt on the real effectiveness of past peace deals.

Meanwhile, even as security operations continue in parts of Katsina, bandits are said to retain control over many rural zones. This worsens fears among farmers who need safe access to their farmland. According to Daily Post, this pattern is common across several communities in the North-West region: armed groups impose levies and then attack if their demands are not met.

Security observers caution that the continued payment of such levies only empowers the armed groups further, potentially enabling them to extend their influence to more rural settlements. Bakastine has questioned whether current security strategies are sustainable and whether there are sufficient enforcement mechanisms to safeguard vulnerable communities.
