Reno Omokri, Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Mexico, has responded to singer Davido after being called ‘Bingo’ in a social media post. The exchange started when Omokri commented on the delay of his diplomatic posting, linking it to the World Cup. Davido reacted with a post calling Omokri ‘Umu Bingo’ and referencing him as a fowl.
In his reply, Omokri described Davido’s comment as ‘feedback’ and labeled it ‘most shocking.’ He shared screenshots of the exchange on Instagram, explaining that Davido’s anger stems from Omokri’s criticism of the singer wearing a jacket with the names of abducted Oyo schoolchildren during a World Cup performance. Omokri argued that while Davido’s intentions might be good, using a global platform to highlight the abduction could inadvertently boost the terrorists’ agenda and spread fear.
Omokri further contrasted Davido’s actions with those of American influencer IShowSpeed, who wore Nigeria’s jersey at the same event and spoke positively about the country. Omokri stated, ‘You are an international celebrity whom Nigeria is proud of. Coming to insult me on my Instagram profile with such vulgar words should be beneath you.’ He also noted that Peter Obi had praised Davido for the jacket gesture, which may have influenced the singer’s defensive stance.
