Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has leveled serious allegations against President Bola Tinubu, claiming that the administration is employing unprecedented methods to influence and compromise individuals across Nigeria. In a statement posted on social media platform X on Tuesday, Effiong argued that many previously principled figures have become indifferent to governance failures, while others feign neutrality or make excuses for the government while quietly resisting reform efforts.
Effiong warned that the damage to national integrity would be so severe that a special census would be needed to count those whose moral compasses remain intact. He asserted that Tinubu’s approach to buying and compromising people is without historical parallel, leaving previously respected individuals blind and mute to issues of bad governance. Some, he said, are now pretending to be neutral while actively making excuses for Tinubu and tacitly opposing any push for change.
The lawyer’s comments come amid growing criticism of the administration’s policies and handling of security and economic challenges. Effiong’s remarks underscore a deepening concern among some Nigerians about the erosion of accountability and the manipulation of public figures through inducements.
