Benfica’s head coach, Jose Mourinho, has publicly refuted claims that Real Madrid has reached out to him about becoming their next permanent manager. Speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of the fixture against Braga on Sunday, the Portuguese tactician clarified that no formal approach has been made.
In recent days, speculation has been rife linking Mourinho with a return to the Spanish capital, especially after Real Madrid parted ways with Xabi Alonso earlier this season. The club has since appointed Alvaro Arbeloa as an interim coach to see out the current campaign.
When directly questioned about whether he had been contacted by Real Madrid, Mourinho stated unequivocally, “I have not had any contact with the Real Madrid club management, and due to my own decision, especially at the end of the season. I will not discuss these matters with anyone. I will not talk about it.”
This firm stance suggests the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager is focused solely on his duties at Benfica for now, despite the persistent rumors linking him to one of the most high-profile jobs in world football.
