The businesswoman behind the MOBO Awards, Kanya King, has died.
On June 3, 2026, King lost her battle with colon cancer, according to reports. She was 57 years old.
The MOBO Organization confirmed this heartbreaking news via an Instagram post on Friday.
“We announce with deep sadness the passing of our Founder and CEO, Kanya King CBE, on June 3, 2026, after a valiant fight with colon cancer,” the statement read.
MOBO, which stands for Music of Black Origin, is a prestigious annual awards ceremony in the UK. King launched it in 1996.
Born in Kilburn, north London, on February 12, 1969, King was the daughter of an Irish mother and a Ghanaian father.
