Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, known as Mr P and formerly one half of the duo P-Square, has stated that celebrities cannot single-handedly rescue Nigeria from its challenges. He made this known while responding to growing public demand for famous personalities to speak out against poor governance, insecurity, and economic struggles in the country.
In a recent chat with Wozabia FM Lagos, Mr P emphasized that real change requires the collective effort of all citizens, not just the influential few. He acknowledged that while he had previously expressed a desire to distance himself from the nation’s problems, he has since reconsidered.
“I apologize for saying I’d stop worrying about Nigeria’s issues. I have security around me, but not everyone can afford that. This is our home, and only we can make things better. However, celebrities alone cannot save Nigeria. Those urging celebrities to speak up need to rethink their focus. It’s not about celebrities. The government has let us down, but together we can create the change we need,” he said.
