Former Spain international Xabi Alonso has reportedly become the top target to take over the managerial position at Chelsea. According to talkSPORT, the Blues are now focusing on the ex-Real Madrid boss as they search for Liam Rosenior’s replacement.
Chelsea’s management is eager to finalize the appointment before the 2026 World Cup begins. The club has already initiated discussions with Alonso, who is currently without a job following his dismissal from Real Madrid.
While Alonso leads the race, other candidates remain in contention. Fulham’s Marco Silva and Bournemouth’s outgoing manager Andoni Iraola are both still being considered. Additionally, Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner and former Flamengo coach Filipe Luis are on the shortlist.
Interestingly, Filipe Luis was previously discussed by Chelsea before Rosenior’s hiring, with talks eventually shifting toward a potential move to Strasbourg prior to Gary O’Neil’s appointment. The club’s search for a new manager continues as they aim to secure a top candidate to lead the team forward.
