Family Reveals Zeenat Balogun Died from Sickle Cell Disease

The family of veteran Nollywood actor Saheed Balogun has officially announced the cause of his daughter Zeenat Balogun’s death. The actress, who was also a rising star in the industry, passed away in October 2024, leaving many fans puzzled about the circumstances surrounding her sudden demise.

In a heartfelt disclosure, her stepbrother Kahlid Balogun shared that Zeenat had been battling sickle cell disease for years. He made the revelation on Wednesday while posting a video tribute on Instagram to mark what would have been her birthday. The tribute, created by members of the Balogun family and her close friends, celebrated her life and legacy.

Kahlid wrote: “We only die when we are forgotten. Today, the Balogun family remembers and celebrates the life of our beloved firstborn, Zeenat Balogun, on her posthumous birthday. Though her journey was marked by the challenges of sickle cell anemia, she faced every battle with remarkable strength, courage, and grace, leaving behind memories that continue to inspire us every day.”

He also noted that the posthumous birthday celebration coincided with World Sickle Cell Day, using the opportunity to raise awareness about the condition. “As we honor her birthday, we also commemorate World Sickle Cell Day through this tribute video—raising awareness, celebrating resilience, and remembering the countless warriors fighting this condition. Zeenat may no longer be with us physically, but her love, light, and legacy remain forever alive in our hearts,” he added.

Zeenat Balogun was the first child of Saheed Balogun from his previous marriage to Sherifat, before he tied the knot with actress Fathia Balogun. Her death had sparked widespread speculation online, with many questioning the cause until now.
