Nigeria Wins Bid to Host 2026 CAF Ordinary Congress and Awards

In a significant boost for African football, Nigeria has been selected to host two major CAF events in 2026: the 48th Ordinary General Assembly and the annual CAF Awards ceremony. The announcement was made by President Bola Tinubu during a meeting with CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe at the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Ordinary General Assembly is scheduled for October 2026, bringing together delegates from all 54 CAF member associations, zonal union representatives, and senior football officials from across Africa. The CAF Awards will follow in December 2026, honoring the continent’s top football talents.

This marks a shift from recent years, as Morocco had hosted the last three editions of the CAF Awards. Nigeria’s selection underscores its growing influence in African football administration and its commitment to developing the sport on the continent.

The West African nation last hosted the CAF Awards in 2013, and the 2026 events are expected to attract global attention, showcasing Nigeria’s capacity to organize large-scale football gatherings.
