Three Players Tuchel Picked Over Palmer for England World Cup Squad

England manager Thomas Tuchel has disclosed that three standout performers edged out Chelsea’s Cole Palmer for a spot in the 2026 World Cup team. Tuchel recently revealed his final squad for the tournament, which begins next month, and Palmer was notably absent.

In explaining his decision, Tuchel pointed to the exceptional seasons of Jude Bellingham, Eberechi Eze, and Morgan Rogers. According to the German coach, these players were more influential and consistent in their performances compared to Palmer, who struggled to replicate his previous form.

“Cole didn’t have the same impact as in prior campaigns, and his availability was limited,” Tuchel stated, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. “He also vies for the right half-space role, where we opted for Jude, Morgan, and Ebs—talents who delivered stronger seasons and made a greater mark during our camps.”

The decision underscores the fierce competition in England’s attacking midfield positions, with Palmer missing out despite his past contributions.
