Toni Payne Thrilled to Break Super Falcons Scoring Drought in Senegal Friendly

Everton midfielder Toni Payne expressed immense joy after finally finding the net for the Super Falcons in a friendly match against Senegal. The 31-year-old scored Nigeria’s second goal in a 2-1 victory at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne on Friday night.

Asisat Oshoala had opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute, before Payne doubled the lead with a clinical finish just before halftime. The goal marked Payne’s first for the African champions after nearly five years without a strike.

“I’m happy to score for the Falcons after almost five years, so it’s really good to do it here in Nigeria,” Payne said after the match. The former United States youth international, who switched allegiance to Nigeria, has made 46 appearances for the Super Falcons.

Payne’s goal helped secure a morale-boosting win for Justine Madugu’s side as they continue preparations for upcoming competitions.
