Toyosi Etim Effiong, the wife of renowned Nollywood actor and filmmaker Daniel Etim Effiong, has shared how her union with the movie star paved the way for her career as a talent manager. Speaking on her podcast, she disclosed that after tying the knot, she observed a lack of structure and legal frameworks not only in her husband’s career but across the Nigerian film industry.
Drawing from her background as an event organizer in New York, she resolved to apply some of the organized practices from the American entertainment scene to Nollywood. Her first client was her husband, Daniel. Within months of managing his professional affairs, positive transformations in his career caught the attention of his colleagues, who soon approached her to manage them as well.
Etim Effiong elaborated on the informal nature of the industry, noting that producers often call actors casually to check availability and negotiate fees over the phone like traders in a market. She highlighted instances where actors clear their schedules for a shoot only to receive last-minute cancellations with flimsy excuses. This lack of professionalism and legal structure motivated her to step in as a self-appointed manager for her husband, a role he embraced. Her support, which included overseeing his social media and reviewing contracts, yielded quick results, prompting other actors in his circle to seek her services.
